The ECOWAS volunteer palliative care nurse held

The ECOWAS Volunteer Palliative Care Nurse delivered a refresher course on the prevention of healthcare-associated infections at the Bo Government Hospital, Freetown, Sierra Leone, on 20 December 2023. The aim of the course was to reduce the rise in surgical infections and prolonged hospital stays for patients, and to equip nurses to adhere to key principles of nosocomial infection prevention. Medical supplies, such as bed linen, were also donated to the High Dependency Unit during this event, which helped to ensure that patients had a comfortable stay and reduced the risk of hospital-acquired infections. This appeared to be a barrier to maintaining aseptic technique, putting patients at risk of infections they might contract whilst in hospital. This was one approach to improving the provision of high-quality, safe healthcare.
