On Saturday 15 June 2024, the ECOWAS Permanent Representation in Burkina Faso celebrated the regional institution’s 49th anniversary at its premises. This belated commemoration was attended by staff from ECOWAS entities based in Ouagadougou and their families, as well as staff from the West African Health Organisation (WAHO), led by its Director-General. In his address, the Acting Resident Representative of ECOWAS in Burkina Faso, His Excellency Francis Chuks Njoaguani, highlighted the challenges associated with regional integration and community development. He expressed his satisfaction at ECOWAS’s many achievements for the benefit of the people and regional integration. Whilst expressing the hope that the talks already taking place behind the scenes, and the negotiations due to take place between ECOWAS and Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger may lead to the preservation of the Community’s unity for the well-being of the people, he said he was convinced that the vision of the founding fathers and the interests of our region would prevail over everything that currently divides us. The Acting Resident Representative expressed his gratitude to past and present leaders, staff, agencies and institutions of the regional organisation for the sacrifices they make on a daily basis to promote the Community’s objectives. Combined with the celebration of the Tabaski festival, the commemoration of the 49th anniversary of ECOWAS provided the Permanent Representation of ECOWAS in Burkina Faso withan opportunity to celebrate Eid al-Adha with its Muslim staff and their families, and to acknowledge the important work carried out by the support staff provided to the ECOWAS House in Ouagadougou by local service providers. Gift hampers were therefore presented to Muslim staff members, as well as to security and maintenance staff, in the run-up to the Tabaski festival. The event concluded with a cocktail reception.
