Sport, culture and development

In West Africa, there is growing recognition of the inextricable link between human capital development, regional integration and cultural development. Culture helps to strengthen relations between states and their citizens. In recent years, ECOWAS, through the Centre for Youth and Sports Development (CDJS/ECOWAS), has been actively working to make culture a driving force for community integration and a culture of peace. In 2009, the CDJS/ECOWAS achieved this by organising the second edition of the African wrestling tournament in Dakar. It was a sporting and cultural event that brought together wrestlers from the Community’s member states. During this event, the CDJS/ECOWAS provided technical and logistical support to the organising committee to strengthen the event. #ecowas #integration #wrestling #tolac #cdjs
